Welcome, Destrehan 1962 Classmates
Reunion date, June 12, 2020, 5pm to 8pm, at Ormond Plantation

I created this web site for our 40th reunion in 2002.  My goal was to have a place were we could share the stories of our lives, especially since many of us no longer lived within easy driving distance to Destrehan.  And now, in the eighth decade of our lives, it's even more important because many of us may have physical infirmities that limit travel.

Your response to my request for your stories was good in 2002, as you can see in this web site.

Our 50th reunion was in 2012 and I tried to get people to update their stories. I received a few updates but not many.  Most of our classmates seemed to not be very interested in having this web site.  I received very few messages from our classmates, either about the web site or just to say "Hello".

Now, we have another reunion scheduled.  Unfortunately, it appears that no one has a list of the email addresses so I will not be able to communicate with our class to get any updates.  That, added to the apparent low interest in the web site, has led me to leave the web site as it was in 2002 and 2012.

If you would like to update your story, I'll do it on request.  Send me an email with the text you'd like to add along with any pictures you would want to include in your story. Make sure the pictures are of decent size - don't shrink them down.  I'll handle any editing of the pictures.  Identify the people in the photo(s) so I can include text about the picture.  Unfortunately, time has changed us and I am not able to accurately identify everyone.

I regret the lack of interest in sharing life stories.  I, for one, am very interested in hearing how everyone did in life, especially now that we are looking back, perhaps more than looking forward. Time and age gives a perspective that was impossible for us to have in earlier years.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is the note from the 2012 Reunion.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Most of this web site was created for our 40th reunion.  Back then, we did web pages very differently than we do today.  But it would be a big job to convert this web site to modern techniques, so I ask your indulgence for any problems you may find.  [Update 7/29/2012 Several of you have reported problems with the password so I removed it.]

Many of you sent me your life stories for the 40th reunion, which you can read here.  But those stories only went to 2002, when we were about 58.  Ten years have elapsed since that time and many of us have retired - most of us are about 68 now and we're all in the autumn of our years.  Retirement can open the door to new interests and activities, which you can tell your classmates about by sending me an update to your life story.   You can send it to me at destrehan@destrehan62.com.

The planning for this reunion was much shorter than for our 40th so there's not much time to contact everyone.  Please pass along the URL of this web site to other classmates and encourage them to send in an update to their life story.  Even if you cannot get your update in to me by the date of the reunion, please send it anyway.  It will allow your classmates to catch up with what's happened in your life.

And even if you attend the reunion, it'll be impossible to spend time with everyone and hear their stories.  Even if you could spend time with everyone, you'd get pretty tired of telling your story forty or so times.  About half way through the reunion, you'd shorten your story to something like, "Well, I'm still alive." :-)

I'd also appreciate any suggestions about things you might like added to the web site, and, of course, if you find any broken links, please let me know so I can fix them.  Same if you find any errors in the data on the site - let me know so I can correct it.

I won't be at the reunion - I have a previous commitment to be in North Dakota (of all places!) - but I hope you all enjoy the get together.  I'll be thinking of you all.
