Lorah and L. D. Jackson

Looking back over the years we can't imagine where the time has gone. We do know that in spite of the ups and downs and the rain that falls on all of us from time to time, that we have been blessed in many ways.
After 1962 we moved to Hammond and commuted to Destrehan High School the following year. The next year L. D. began teaching at Southeastern La. University in the Dept. of Chemistry and Physics. At the same time North Oaks Medical Center, here in Hammond was starting their X-ray School and he was asked to teach the Physics of X-ray there. This was part time and something he has really enjoyed. In 1983 L. D. retired from Southeastern but has continued his teaching at North Oaks Hospital. In 1990 he was awarded the title Associate Professor Emeritus of Chemistry by the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities and Southeastern La. University.
The same year that L. D. started teaching at Southeastern I started teaching at Hammond High School. I also entered graduate school at Southeastern attending classes at night and in the summer. After I completed a Masters Degree in Business Education I continued graduate school and completed 30 additional graduate hours certifying in other areas of Education. In 1979 I retired.
In 1984 the Foreign Language Dept. at Southeastern offered a Summer Program to study in Italy for seven weeks. This time L. D. and I both enrolled for Summer School in Italy. We took classes in Italian I and Italian Culture. We attended class long enough to learn how to handle the money and speak just enough Italian to get by. After that we skipped classes and ventured off to explore the Italian Culture. Fortunately we had train passes and I do believe we saw it all. We also managed to find time to venture into Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Too bad all summer schools couldn't be as enjoyable as this was.
Our primary leisure time activity over the years has been Motor Home Traveling. Recently however, after 35 years of traveling coast to coast in the motor home, we ran out of places to and things to see so retired from Motor Home Traveling and have gone SUV Vehicle Traveling. We no longer have to look for campgrounds and truck stops for fueling or clean it up before and after. We simply pack our bags and go. It's great. Those 35 years were outstanding. We wouldn't trade them for anything. Without a doubt, this USA is truly America The Beautiful. I don't believe the words to that song can be understood until you see for yourself what a beautiful country we live in.
In addition to our daughter Debbie, who lives in Texas and out two sons, L. D. III and Dennis, who live nearby, we have three grandchildren who are now 31, 26, and 16.
At the present time L. D. is home recovering from Triple By-Pass Surgery and I am pushing Chicken Soup and Tender Loving Care. We really are sorry we had to miss your 40th Reunion, but hope to see all of you next time.
