Kent B. Meyers
Diane and I moved from Metairie to Covington, La. in 2008. We are enjoying the north shore life and getting use to getting around. Both of our children live north of Lake Pontchartrain as we do. Kevin our son lives in the Hammond area with his family and Leann our daughter lives in Madisonville with her husband. Kevin and Melissa have two children, a girl Katelyn age 7 and a boy Jack age 3. Kevin and his wife both work at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond. Melissa is a nurse and Kevin is working in the maintenance department doing A/C work at the facility. They were married in Metairie in 1998 the year I retired from Shell Oil Co. Leann and Kenny were married in Maui in 2008. They have a daughter born in 2010 Rachael Gurein. She will be 2 years old this November. Kenny has a daughter by a previous marriage who is 9 years old. Both Kenny and Leann are nurses. Leann works at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie in step down ICU and Kenny works at St. Tammany Hospital in ICU. Yes, we have baby sitting duties as most grand parents do!!
Now for Diane and me. I'll be the big 70 in January and Diane just made....well
anyway she is younger than I am by about 6 years. Our health is OK I guess for
our ages. I have had trouble with my left eye and had surgery in December of
2011 to remove a membrane from the retina. I still go the the retinal doctor
and my sight in that eye has not really improved much if any. My right eye is
20/20 and I hope I don't have to go through the eye surgery again. I am now
getting shots of Avastin in the left eye so lets hope for the best. Diane has
had a bout of IBS and the gut pains come and go, but she is doing better than
several years ago.
We have not done much traveling since I retired in
1998. The big trip was my daughter's wedding in Maui. We had a pop-up camper
that we use to go camping in Mississippi, but it went under in Katrina. By the
way, my parent's house in Lakeview in New Orleans went under 10 feet of water
when the 17th Street Canal burst in Katrina. We had the house demolished and
sold the lot in 2007. We lucked out with our house in Metairie with basically
no problems. Little water on the floor from the frig and freezer defrosting and
a few roof cap shingles blown of in the storm. We do go to the camp grounds now
and rent cabins in stay in which is easier on us older folks!!
We hope
all goes well at the reunion. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!
2002 Biography.
Attended Southeastern La. College. Graduated in 1968 with B.S. in Industrial Technology. Hired by Shell Oil Co. in a drilling foremen training program and worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico on a Shell drilling rig for one year. During that time I was in the Navy reserves attending weekend drills at Belle Chase Naval Station. Served two years active duty on an aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Constellation) one of those years in the Gulf on Tonkin off of Vietnam.
After I was released from active duty I returned to Shell, but changing to a job of engineering assistant in the Metairie office.
In 1974 I married Diane Harris from La Place on Sept. 7th. We had a son born in 1976, Kevin Paul, and a daughter born in 1980, Leann Lynn. Our son was married on June 5, 1998 (no grandchildren yet). He is an A/C Technician. Our daughter is working on a nursing degree at Charity school of nursing.
I spent 32 years of employment with Shell Oil. Co. in the offshore drilling engineering group as a drilling engineer. I remained in the New Orleans area throughout my entire career. In 1998 I retired from my job with Shell and have remained retired since.
My father was a Shell employee at Norco retiring in 1967 and moving to New Orleans from the refinery housing the following year. He has since passed away and my mother lives at their retirement home in New Orleans. She will be 88 years old shortly and I spend several days a week assisting her at her home. My wife and I attended the reunion in Norco this year of those folks who lived on the refinery grounds and it was a great day to see and visit with many old friends.
Since retirement we have done some renovations in our house. A couple of years ago we bought a pop-up camper and enjoy getting away to campgrounds in the Mississippi area. We plan to travel in the U.S. and to other places in the future.
And that’s it for the Meyerses.
