Jane Madere Roussel

My life seems to have come full circle. In May 1962 I was unemployed and living in Montz. Now, 40 years later, I am unemployed and living in Montz. The 40 years in between were a real hoot.

The day after graduation, I was awaken by a phone call from The National Gypsum Company offering me a job to start immediately. I began work there as an order clerk and resigned 3 years later as secretary to the office manager.

I married Barry Roussel in November of 1964. We moved to LaPlace when our first born son was just a year old and lived in LaPlace for the next 25 years. We were blessed with 4 daughters to go with our one son.

Barry worked for the Dupont company and I was a stay-at-home mom until my youngest child started kindergarten. In 1976 I went to school with my children who were all at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School. I became one of the school secretaries.

In 1992 we moved back to Montz. Barry always wanted to build his own home and did just that after we sold our home in LaPlace.

Barry retired from Dupont in January 2000 and I retired from St. Joan in December 2000.

We are fortunate our five children all live close by, but on their own. We have five grandchildren ages 15 to 1 years.  Barry and I enjoy looking after the one year old while her parents work.

I'm involved with teaching religion for our parish CCD program and I am a Eucharistic Minister. We have a lot of family around which keeps us very busy. I enjoy sewing, gardening and especially reading.

Barry and I are very thankful for having this retired time to just stop and smell the roses!!

1993 biography

For ten years or so I took time to raise my family of five.  In 1976 I began work at St. Joan of Arc School and have been there since.  Barry and I lived in LaPlace for twenty-five years.  Just this past year we sold our home there and are currently building one in Montz.  Yes, that’s right!  I’m back where I began – Montz!
