1993 biography

After DHS I attended LSU and graduated with a B.S. in accounting.  Mildred Nichols and I were married in 1965.  I went on to graduate school (to avoid the draft) and finally got a paying job in Houston in 1968.  Moved to Metairie in 1970 and in 1973 moved to Lake Charles and went to work for a large, local CPA firm.  Have been a partner in several firms since 1976 and currently in Alexandria.  I, like many, dream of early retirement (age sounds good for retirement, don't you think?).

In 1971 when Scott was three years old I was "born again" as it was so popularly called.  I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and would not be here today without the help of him.  I was saved in a First Baptist Church of Kenner, LA and remain a card carrying Baptist today.  In fact, one of the things that keeps me sane is teaching Sunday School (to adults).  I love teaching and I learn so much in my studies.

In 1972 my second son, Matt, was born.  We soon discovered that he had three congenital heart defects.  He was in and out of the hospital countless time in Lake Charles, New Orleans and Houston.  My faith saw me through the stressful time.  How I ever worked and worried/took care of him is beyond my understanding.

In 1980 my dad died.  On September 10, 1985 Matt died.  Then four years later to the day, my mom died .  I know it is hard for all of us to reflect on our deceased over the last thirty years.  Mildred and I divorced in 1982.

In 1984 I married Cindy Durham and we have three boys at  home - they are all in high school this year with the oldest going to LA Tech in the fall.  My son, Scott, is 24 and passes through town every so often.  He has spent my money at most of LA finest colleges.

Through thirty years I've learned that family and friends are the important thing that money can't buy.  Destrehan High School - Class of 1962!  Who would have dreamed that we would have seen the year 2000.

P.S. As we age we do things before we get too old/die.  Two years ago I completed a life long dream and got my private pilot's license.  Last November I got my instrument rating.  It's better than I imagined!
